Open ~/.gemini/settings.json and merge this in. Keep any servers already there.

Save the file and restart Gemini CLI.

Ask for something census_compare_geographies does. Gemini CLI lists the server's tools on connect and calls census_compare_geographies itself — you do not invoke it by name.

If nothing happens, check the server is running and that census mcp server's identifier in your config matches the one above exactly.

Set these first
census mcp server will not start until these are set, so census_compare_geographies never becomes available.
