Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Ask for something stackexchange_get_user does. Claude Desktop lists the server's tools on connect and calls stackexchange_get_user itself — you do not invoke it by name.

If nothing happens, check the server is running and that stackexchange mcp server's identifier in your config matches the one above exactly.
